As I have noted before, the water cops in northern seas are vastly more
respected than the bs specialists here in the south.
Because life on the water is more dangerous along that rocky coast and in
the heavier weather typical in northern waters the cops there, especially
the USCG, are primarily concerned with life and death issues so are
proportionably more respected by the folks up there.
I will never forget an incident in Camden ME at a outdoor end-of-season
party for the schooner crews to which we were privileged to be invited to.
When the Coast Guard cutter pulled up to the dock I thought, "Oh crap,
somebody is in for it now!"
But much to my surprise, everyone seemed very happy to see them and made up
big plates of fresh seafood dinner for everyone on the ship! I was
astonished! What a incredible change from down south.
"The way life should be." indeed...
