Yesterday afternoon I returned to my boat & saw that my beloved bicycle was
gone. Damn, I really liked that bike. It had been secured to my dock box. My
slip is at the very end of a 400' dock, there are virtually no people
wandering around out here. I'm bummed. 'Security' said they saw someone on a bike
but had no description of the thief. I called the police. After waiting 3 hrs
with no response I called again & told them I'd try again tomorrow. Not that I
think the police will find my bike, I just want the theft on record so if I
ever see my bike and liberate it from the criminal I may (possibly) avoid
having theft/assault charges brought against me.
Meanwhile, the 'security' guy was watching tv earlier this evening. Half an
hour ago I walked by the office and he was asleep.
Accidents happen. I was helping bring a sailboat to Baltimore from a creek
in Annapolis. Calm water, sunny day. We had just departed the yard, under
power. I went below, came up into the cockpit. I stood, looking to see where we
were. The helmsman was out of the channel and drove into a hard sandbar. The
boat stopped dead. I don't remember the events but I was thrown forward,
hitting my head on the companionway slider. The impact knocked me out momentarily.
I dropped head-first down into the boat. My first recollection was of my
face painfully pressed against the companionway steps/ladder. Concussion & neck
whiplash. I've been going to Physical Therapy twice a week.
Oh well, I'm still alive. I will get another bike in the spring.
