I use Golf cart batteries on my boat as well, best bang for the buck....
best AH/HR per $ ...
Like most Hatteras, i have an 32v DC system and use four 8v Exide golf cart
batteries for each bank. While they are not suposed to be start batteries,
they have no problem cranking the big DD 8V71Ns... $80 each that $320 per
bank and they're easy to get in an out. Last set lasted about 4 years
whcih is pretty god in florida.
For my inverter bank, i have eight 6 v Exides, about $60 each... I've only
installed that bank 2 years ago but i think they shoudl last 3 to 4 as well
although i use that bank a lot so the number of cycle may eventuallyt take
its toll.
From what I've seen, the more expensive batteries do last longer but when
you factor in the cost, i think GC come ahead.
