    I well remember that channel.

While we were arriving I, as Radio Officer, copied a long list of lat/lon
numbers sent to us designed to guide us around that silted-in channel. We
made it ok, but the deck officers were all on the bridge and were very
concerned because recently another ship had hit that shallow place and it
took days to get them off. Downtime of a ship is very expensive.

I rather think the bosses of the country simply did not want to spend the
required money to keep the channel properly dredged so the burden was
    shifted to the mariners.
