Because they are a part of your family? Our Bulldog is one of our children. She doesn't seem to mind the boat or the marina like people think she would. All the other reasons stated below are true too. Funny how people walk on by your boat if they mistake the breed.

    Fair question.
A small dog like a Schipperke makes an excellent deterrent to thieves
    (mine did).

They may also let you know when the thirty ton schooner is dragging down
    on you (mine did).

They may also let you know if it is a friend or unknown approaching so
you do not need to poke your head up (mine did).

They make great "ice breakers" to young ladies (mine did).

They warm your toes on cold nights (mine did sometimes, but he liked to
sleep on deck on crisp winter nights a lot also).

They will keep your dingy from "wandering off" (if you tried to grab the
dingy painter and move the dingy you would get a severe warning, and as
I witnessed it would escalate to real threats of teeth work if you
actually tried to un-tie the painter from the cleat!)

They eat less for what they do than any person (small dogs).

They are neater than many people I have met. (OK, myself included )

They never complain if you run aground.

    They don't smoke.

    They don't drink.

    They don't preach.

They are better at returning love than almost any human I have ever met.

And last of all...they might save your life someday...(mine did).-Ken
