Hi All,
Well I have been using my electrically assisted
bicycle for quite a while now and I have learned a
few things.
First about the rust problem. Here is my
solution.
I bought a BBQ cover from Lowes on-line store. It
is the largest one, intended for a large cart type
BBQ. It easily will enclose 2 bikes. Then I bought
2 'Goldenrod' 36 inch heat sticks. Before I put
the cover on the bike I slide the Goldenrods along
the chain guard and on the other side of the rear
wheel. I slide them forward to a position where
they rest on the pedal and remain on the bike
without falling off. When the cover is on, and the
Goldenrods are plugged in, the bike remains above
the ambient temperature and so there is NO
condensation on the bike.
Second I use Boashield on the chain. That chain
is now 5 years old, has been on the dock (when not
in use) at all times and has NO RUST!
I bought a ladies model bike because I can not
lift my leg over the rear tire so I need to be
able to step through, but I am certain a men's
bike will work too.
Also, since my last flat tire a while ago I now
pump the tires up to maximum pressure before EVERY
ride. You might be surprised how fast the pressure
goes down.
I have not done it yet, but I am sure that even
with the 40 pound battery still mounted on the
bike I will be able to lift it from a dinghy onto
the deck of my boat by using the main halyard and
a winch if need be.
Boeshield, Goldenrods, and heavy-duty BBQ covers
RULE over condensation and rust!!!
:-) :-)
