    If you remove the ground wire (if any) from one side stay and connect there,
    the whole rig will be the antenna, no insulators req'd, the chainplate is
    usually bolted to insulating fiberglass. Downside: Uncertain how much of
    the rig is dangerous to touch, or may have high RF energy levels. As
    explained to me, the energy is expended in the rig system and the bases of
    the other stays and mast can be grounded without problem. I used this
    system for a year on my Nauticat 33, then got an insulated backstay, the
    only difference was that I didn't need to keep yelling at my wife to get
    away from the wiring while I was transmitting.
