I've recently dealt with the City I live in regarding keeping my sportscar in my backyard, unplated. This particular city defines 'derelict' as unplated, even if the car is pristine and runs perfectly. The devil can be found in the details and those details can be pesky redefinitions of words to suit the lawmakers requirements. Dot every 't' and cross every 'i', it's too chancy to do otherwise.
What is 'registered' for example. In Ontario, I am not required to annually license my boat, so I'm unregistered in the sense that US boaters think of it. Yet I'm entirely legal.

p.s. re the car, found a City bylaw that contradicted the one being enforced. City had to give in to me.

The hours spent sailing are not deducted from your time on earth...
