Hi Sorry about the HTML email. This mail client won't send plain text. I live in Australia and I really enjoy this list. It's a great way to avoid work. My boat is a 8 meter (27 foot) sloop of moderate displacement. I'm going to move her from the mooring to a harbour up the coast for a month or so (Sydney Harbour). I could pay $300 to hire another mooring but I'm thinking that if I spend that money on some ground tackle I should be able to anchor safely enough to leave her unattended. I've had trouble finding information about this but I'm sure I read an article somewhere that recommended this general approach: * Lay out the main anchor (large CQR type) in the direction of the strongest wind in my area (southerly) on all chain rode. * Lay out the second anchor (smaller Danforth type) to the north on all chain. * Shackle these chains together and attach a swivel (all fixed with cable ties so they can't come loose). * Join the swivel to the boat with chain just long enough to keep if off the bottom. * Add a nylon snubber. Both anchors are currently on nylon rodes. I'm considering buying two 25 meter (90 foot) lengths of chain to replace these. I normally anchor in shallow water about 3-4 meters (9-13 feet). Here's the questions: * Is this the best way? Do you have any further suggestions. * What size chain should I buy? I guess weight is an important factor since this is a small boat and I don't have a windlass so I'm thinking that high strength (I think it's called high-test) chain would be best since I can use a smaller size. I'm planning to leave one length of chain and a nylon rode in the small anchor locker and store the other length of chain in a canvas bag in a cockpit locker. Thanks is advance Mark
