Aye, and there lies the rub.
"The Law" in general claims its worth is to eliminate arbitrary rules
applied at whim by despots.
It fails to do consistently do this, which is partly the reason people
often hold lawyers and the judicial system they created and maintain, and
the police who enforce it, in contempt.
