To be honest, we would prefer the BVI but on our trips down there it has
become evident that US ownership is difficult and very time consuming.
I would prefer to live in a place where I can actually own the property
rather than have some kind of non resident land lease thing.
well, why look at leasing or buying 'in the short term' IF you can start on
the boat then house sit for a year or two for free while you make the
connections and the choices needed to purchase???? totally understand what you say
even opening a BVI Bank account was a total pain and a difficult and time
consuming task.
And my experience with the USVI is not great. Too much money, drugs, and
crime. I wish it wasn't so, but that is my experience.
well, i would say too much government <sik> (total misuse of that word)
corruption - yes there are the problems that you list but sadly you will find
these in any urban community in any first world city or town - sadly a modern
disease so if you move to a third world contry and i mean all of the VI's -
dont think they would agree of course - well do you expect things to be all
sweetness and light - i have been told that rape is unknown on St Croix and the
last time that happened the perpretator was found dead after 'being subject to
'the local justice system' i wont describe here how that was admisistered
but for sure it was designed and the message delivered to all an sundry to
make sure that this was a crime that would not happen again.
So, we are looking for alternatives. If not the DR, then maybe Belize? If
not,
there are still some nice ports in Florida that have not been overtaken
by the masses...
well i think FL is a short term thing as it is only a matter of time until
the masses are everywhere.......... your even considering moving there ;-)
Sam
p.s. Wonder what is the future of Cuba...
Well, not even the future - Cuba has one of the world best health services
totally free including dental health and with community doctors and nurses then
health centres and then the major hospitals with a system that tries to keep
you out of hospital with a system of good health promotion. They even have
a 120 Club - yes people planning to live to 120 years old. Cuban life
expectancy is on the par (according to latest statistics with USA and UK) and if
you look at the popular indicators for what are considered a modern society
Cuba comes out well in front of countries like the USA even - their medical
schools are world famous and free with some 'naughty Americans studying and
training there'
For sure Cuba appeals to me - as to how easy it would be to move there that
i dont know as well as how easily you could integrate into Cuban society. At
least in the VI's you would find compatible friends quickly and find
integration into some sort of ex pat community relatively easy.
regards
David
