We have been getting bombarded with literature about condos and
retirement property in the Dominican Republic. We have been looking for
a nice place to retire and use as a central point for cruising the
Caribbean. We would appreciate any info from list members who are
knowledgeable about the area. How safe is it? Good marina facilities?
People? Good investment? Political stability? Any info from folks
that have been there would be great and help us make the decision to go
    down and check it out.

    Thanks,
    Sam and Gina

Well, i would have thought the Virgin Islands was the spot. St Croix if
you are American or even but much more expensive property wise St John or St
Thomas. Then again looking at the BVI's Tortola or Jost Van Dyke or Virgin
Gorda must be worth a look, We have friends in the BVI's who 'stopped there' on
the way down island a few years ago and now they are 'professional house
sitters' they seem to be in great demand and are able to pick and choose which
property to house sit - they sail on the boat now and again and while
previously retired they now both have BVI work permits and part time jobs as well.

    regards

    David
