I have a PUR 35, not the most efficient but has been very reliable.
I bought it because with a 25 ft boat space is at at premium and it has a
very compact size.
It is not hard to work on, as I just remove the entire unit from the locker
when needed.
It came with one filter, I added a charcoal filter, a prefilter, and a
manual feedpump for when it breaks suction, not often but.
I can easily supply all the power it needs when the sun is shinning well on
my 55W solar panel or when there is enough wind to push the boat more than 2
or 3 kts the wind genny will do fine.
It takes one day a week to replenish one of my two tanks, I fill the 18
gallon one. It will run from early in the morning to late afteroon to do
that.
It can also be pumped manualy, not hard to do at all but would be a PITA,
but that feature is another reason I bought it, since my tankage is small it
is a critical piece of equip. I also have a lifeboat unit to back it up.
I only use it on crossings or at anchor when water is expensive or hard to
find or likely bad. It has seen only light use but has performed flawlesly.
I would recommend it to someone whose water needs are light (my biggest use
is showers, I can't stand salt water showers my skin goes crazy) and those
who have a small boat with limited space.
One thing that will insure good operation in my opinion is adding a charcoal
filter and doing your maintance. Also use good shut off valves. I added a
check valve on the waste output so it won't siphon back as soon as it is
shut off. -Ken
