Precisely why I am asking the question. The website doesn't answer my
    questions.
Exactly how do their equipment regulate and handle what is almost a dead
short when the welding stick touches the metal and strikes an arc?
How exactly does the regulator modulate the field current and based on what
    voltage and current values?

I didn't say it was junk. I said I had heard similar stores of occasional
failures from all the major brands.
So that just puts them on alevel playing field.
What I didn't see was details on how these ZENA differ from other high end
    quality brands.
