Thanks! I was able to begin fiberglassing my chines tonight free of care.
Wheat flour, mixed 1.5 : 1 by volume with polyester resin, and you get
ketchup. Whereas a 2 : 1 mix gives you peanut butter, same as others. Both
taste awful. I guess powdered lime (the mineral, not the food) is apparently
popular. I started thinking of all the things around the house that are
predominently powdered lime.
I had been using GougeThem Bros. #404 "High Density" thickener, and I could
swear it is a powdered mineral, just like lime. The "High Density" propounds
maximum strength:
"....where high-cyclic loads are anticipated. It can also be used for
filleting and gap filling where maximum strength is necessary."
The #406 "Colloidal Silica" seemed comparable to the cab-o-sil (a very
popular choice) that I salvaged from cosmetic factory throwaways.
The thought of spending $10 for a liter of powdered lime or $8 for a quart
of saw dust violates my deepest credo.
Jeff
