Perhaps you needs to evaluate and explain the intended use of the epirb.
If you want to fall overboard and notify the crew on your boat that they are
sailing off without you then something like the "Raymarine LifeTag™ Wireless
Man Overboard Monitoring System" might be your choice. (Good for dogs, cats
and children too)
If you are going to step UP into your lifeboat because your boat is sinking,
then a normal epirb might be sufficient ((ARC category II, manual
deployment?). Depends on how quickly you want to be found .. what the
weather is going to be like.
If you are going to fall off your boat when you are alone, then an epirb
with GPS would be best, because the head and shoulders of an average size
human in the middle of a dirty weather ocean can be a hard thing to find.
The fact that they are too big to clip onto a life jacket is a problem. You
might tie it to you on a tether, but then why not just tie yourself on to a
jackline (lifeline) strung for and aft on your boat. Just make sure your
tether is short enough to keep you IN the boat. There was a story a couple
of years back where a chap fell overboard at night during one of Jimmy
Cornell's (?) ACR's . The boat dragged him for hours.
Well .... at least it made it easier for his brother to recover the body,
and for his wife to collect on the life insurance.
What does your local Australian search and rescue agency suggest?
