I think it is a technique called SVO, Straight Vegetable Oil. Typically,
one started the motor up under regular Diesel (or BioDiesel), once the motor
is warmed up switch over to the SVO (One reason, the SVO is ran through a
heat exchanger to warm/thin the oil before it gets to the motor). Need to
switch back to the Diesel before stopping to purge the system.

This is especailly useful to owners of older FORD diesel trucks which
come standard with two separate diesel fuel tanks and the requisite selector
valves. The forward tank mounted alongside the left chassis rail is easily
accessible for adding fuelline heaters etc.
This is an option I am seriously looking at since I have already had one
injection pump ruined by low sulfur diesel.
At over $4 per gallon for road diesel, vegetable oil bought in bulk at the
local farmers co -op is price competive and looking more atractive all the
time.
The vegetable oil is used as feed supplement on hog and dairy farms.
