    for the people who have joined the list in the last few years;

    when gene gruender speaks everyone should listen.

    he has been there and done that and speaks great wisdom gained at great expense.

    he was the primary guiding light when i furst joined the list, and aside from Stefan, has done the most to get this list off on the right track

    believe him when he speaks

    For the OP with the outboard, do you have a small in-line fuel filter?
    Perhaps you could cut one in, and change it every couple of months until
    your tank and system get 'cleaned out'. A simple on-line one, from an auto
    store would be cheap, and much easier then pulling the carb apart all the
    time.

    There are probably new people on the list who haven't hear my rant before, so I'll repeat. Any outboard should have a small inline filter. Just the standard clear auto one will do. Put it inside the cover before the fuel pump. You may end up going years without changing it, you might change it every day or two occasionally, depending on the gas you get. Turst me, I know these things.

    Also, get extra cotter pins and shear pins. If your outboard uses those plastic things to hold the prop on like my little evinrude, get a spare of that as well. Take off the cover of your outboard, find a place inside that has some space between the cover and motor. Clean that spot. Line up these pins and things, then take a caulking gun and glue them in with silicone. One of these days you'll need one and it'll be right there. Again, I know these things!

    One other thing. If you're heading out of the US, take plenty of those things with you. You won't find them in other countries. At least none of the 6 countries I tried to find them in.

    Gene Gruender
