    There are probably new people on the list who haven't hear my rant before, so
    I'll repeat. Any outboard should have a small inline filter. Just the
    standard clear auto one will do. Put it inside the cover before the fuel pump. You
    may end up going years without changing it, you might change it every day or
    two occasionally, depending on the gas you get. Turst me, I know these things.

    Also, get extra cotter pins and shear pins. If your outboard uses those
    plastic things to hold the prop on like my little evinrude, get a spare of that as
    well. Take off the cover of your outboard, find a place inside that has some
    space between the cover and motor. Clean that spot. Line up these pins and
    things, then take a caulking gun and glue them in with silicone. One of these
    days you'll need one and it'll be right there. Again, I know these things!

    One other thing. If you're heading out of the US, take plenty of those things
    with you. You won't find them in other countries. At least none of the 6
    countries I tried to find them in.
