My experience and info concerning IBM laptops has been good. I retired my '97 unit last year w/no problems for the duration. Cat knocked it to the floor a couple times and reconfigured the PCMCIA slot slightly but everything continued to work fine. The T23 hasn't hit the ground yet, but seems well put together. A close friend did hardware support for a law firm for six years (left them this year) and preferred IBM hands down because he didn't have to "warrantee" them so often as the Dells and Toshibas. When they did need work, the mechanical components were relatively easy to replace and when he needed to send one in, service was fast and effective.

Clearly YMMV... I'm sure there are both gems and lemons in each manufacturer's product line.

The "hardened" machines don't seem to be a good value (as currently marketed) compared to good design and construction and keeping a 2nd and 3rd machine loaded and ready.
