Always have the service plan on laptopn IMO.
I recently bought myself a sony. I could have bought 2 sonys for what it
would have cost me for the ibm laptop even with my developer discount.
I have owned an IBM laptop (excellent); a Toshiba (not impressed), a Dell
(good to excellent), 3 sonys (2 that were excellent; and one with screen
issues (replaced 2 years in a row - but with a service plan at best buy).
The later also took a glass of grapefruit juice on it (with the help of my 2
year old) - dried off with a hair dryer and sent it in for repair on the
chance they would repair it. They did.
I once upon a time had a Mac (not a laptop) that took a wave - dried it off
with a hair dryer and was amazed that it worked.
