I can tell you from personal experiance that the Thinkpads
are not reliable. Yes the new Lenovo group that does all
of the IBM desktop/laptop sales and service for IBM is
much better with repair work then IBM used to be but
things are failing that shouldn't be in the first place.

Not only are they not hardened in any way but don't stand
up to normal usage. I have no choice but to use them as
the place I work will only let me have a Thinkpad.

My T-22 was OK. My T-40 was never right. I had all
kinds of USB problems and other strange things. IBM
before Lenovo took over said I spilled soda in it. I
don't even drink soda so that would be impossible. I got
a T-42 to replace it. The T-42 lasted about 6 months
before the HD failed and so did the motherboard. I am not
sure if it was the MB that caused the HD failure or not.
However the HD in this new machine was a referbed unit.
I was able to get them both fixed but if it weren't for
the fact that we do millions of dollars of business with
them and I have some pretty high contacts in IBM because
of the project I am working it would have been a lot
    harder to get fixed.

I would never buy an IBM machine for my own use.
