I've never tried it but I surmise it would be a disaster.
Estimating the correct amount so it doesn't over expand and explode, or set
up with too little fill and no way to fill the void seems to me like an
impossible task.
We had a leaky one and we purchased patches about 4" in diameter with a peel
off back that are put on with rubber cement. By getting them oversize you
get a better chance of them holding and sealing. Towards the end it looked
more like a dinghy made of patches but at least when it came to someone
stealing it they would prefer someone else's.
