One way to get a handle on engine health would be to get an engine oil
analysis done from a place such as www.blackstone-labs.com This can keep one
aware of developing problems such as coolant/water in the oil, fuel
dilution, or abnormal levels of metals in the oil. Various metals mean
different things and it is all explained on their website. On an older
engine, the first analysis can give indications of engine health and on
subsequent analysis, one can monitor engine health by comparison to the
original baseline. Basic analysis costs $20, they will send you a container
kit free and you pay when you have the analysis done.
