I've only met one single hander in my limited travels. A Swiss gentleman
(Switzerland: renowned for their sailors) (NO, don't mention the America's
Cup).
We met him in a bar at the far end of Port Elizabeth in Bequia. The bar had
6"x6" posts (pillars) to hold up the roof. He had a length of rope slung
around one of the pillars, and was dancing (with the pillar).
It had taken him 48 days, from France to Bequia, with stops for water etc.
in Cape Verde and Saint Lucia. 44 days of solo sailing in a 32 ft sailboat,
waking up every 15 minutes, looking around, taking a small drink of water,
going to sleep.
In spite of this regime, he seemed perfectly normal, except for the fact he
was dancing with a pillar.
