My copy of 'Sailing the Farm' was found used on Amazon a couple of months
ago. Just killed me to pay 48USD for an $8 book, but it was so highly
recommended that just had to buy it. Figure I will get around to reading it
when we move on the boat next spring.

We have a folding plastic bowl (ortleib) which in spring we plant with
compost and herbs (coriander, basil, mint). This normally sits under the
sprayhood forward of the cockpit where it can get very warm because it's
under transparent glass and out of the wind. It's light in itself, very
portable (so if eg its too hot, or the cat wants to eat it, or it's very
rough) and it works surprisingly well.
We have given these as presents, already planted up, to other yachties and
they have proved popular.
Sailing the Farm is excellent, but not easy to get (certainly not in UK). I
got my copy from Alibris, the online second hand book dealers. It's by Ken
Neumeyer, ISBN 089815 051 5.
