    and yes i know the inverter will switch off when it gets down to a
    certain voltage but lots of other things wont.

    so install one of the battery saver switches. They disconnect the
    entire DC load circuit if the battery voltage goes too low.
    Geeze what a poor excuse for avoiding having some real convenience on
    board. If there is a technical problem there e is always a technical
    solution to match.
