I would second Tropical Shipping for general Carib
shipping having used them for over 14 years to ship
everything from boxes to house contents, but I might
check for local shippers to USVI out of PR first. For
smaller units you could check for shipping agents that
act as consolidators, contracting for one full
container, then parceling it out at flat rate per
barrel or cube, at rates below major shippers
dimension piece rate. The problem with them is one of
time, as many only ship monthly or seasonally.
One issue you may face is that land shippers in US
charge by the pound and sea carriers charge by
dimension...factor it in for packing the shipment.
All charges included, I have had shipping rates from
Miami or NJ to Lesser Antilles by Tropical, being one
half the cost of getting cartage shipper to truck the
same box a few hundred miles to the port. NEVER let
cartage company describe shipment as they will default
set "Household Goods" on non corp shipments, which
have the highest cartage rates, amazing diff...insist
on this, then on shipping date change it on waybill
when they forget, then on customs form change it
again.....etc. (I am too young to be this cynical I
    fear)
That said I would suggest you monitor the shipment
through the process with Tropical as well, assume
little, as I have had problems (Miami port more than
all others combined) with silliness (laughably lame
excuses, if it were not my goods), that delays
    shipments until a call.
For a small shipment such as a motor, I would suggest
using the Tropical agent at your destination to make
all the arrangements as most of their fee is covered
in the Tropical quote (does not include customs fees
etc) and they can get your shipment "found" much
faster after arrival....and the ONLY way to get it if
a West Indies test match week.
If you ever need to ship a large portion (cube) of a
20 ft container look at dealing with Tropical direct
for best quote. If at least half of a small container
look into filling the rest with stuff you will need,
as at about that point a full container may be cheaper
to send....we use paper products and nursery polymer
beads for plants, as packing/filling material and
usually make an internal profit doing so....plus
really nice TP or paper towels makes welcome fillip to
    tip for unloaders IME.

Good luck and either pay an agent to handle all and
monitor the agent or be creative as your own
contractor to save some money. Oh and when they tell
you that the guy who signs off the customs sheets is
off island for at least a week, or the security camera
is out of film so no processing this week, just nod
and inquire upon their day...it is a test of sorts by
the Carib Gods and a good primer ...or that is how I
learned to deal with et all. :>)

    Cheers
