A bit light on the detail but ... take a pair of stereo earphones and
plug it into the vhf radio jack ... vol turned low ... do you hear sound
out of both ears? If so the radio is set for stereo or has a stereo jack
wired for mono. If you hear sound out of one ear only the radio has a
mono output jack ... which is normal. Sounds as if your speaker has a
stereo connection (3 wire) which means it will work in most other radios
except vhf with a mono jack. The mono jack may be shorting out the
sleeve and ground connections of the 3 wire plug. Get a stereo to mono
adapter at Radio Shack. Don't mess with the VHF.
