The county where I am living in SC is claiming property tax is due on my
documented vessel registered and used primarily in FL. Apparently they access
the USCG documentation records for owners in this county and claim that the
tax situs of the boat is the owner's address rather than the actual location.
Sounds like hogwash to me and I requested that they inform me of the where in
the SC Code there is anything to that effect. They said they would get back
to me, but I suspect that they will just ignore my protest and file a lien
on the boat if I don't pay. Anybody have any experience with this?
