OK, OK You all love your hydronic heaters! :-)
I guess my situation is very non-standard.
I have an 'engine room' in the middle of my boat.
There is no longer any engine in it.
I am going to install a heater (ok furnace) from a
RV supplier. No duct will be longer than 3 feet.
The aft cabin is to the aft wall of the
coompartment where the furnace is. The main saloon
(can we all agree to start spelling THAT word like
it sounds ie. SALON?) is to the front of the
compartment, galley to the starbord, head to port.
The V-berth will be heated by taking warm air
from the top of the main salon and blowing it down
toward the bottom of the V-berth area. 1 extra 12
volt fan, another few feet of duct, taking up some
space in a closet.
Since it is a propane furnace I will remain with
only 2 fuels aboard (both stored aft of the deck,
over the ocean) keeping my life a little simpler.
I have found that Golden Rods installed in each
storage compartment (there really are only 3 in
the v-berth compartment and the one big one under
my aft-cabin bed) connected to AC power in
combination with an inch of air space created by
strong stainless steel mesh keeping everthing away
from the hull prevents the mildew and mold in the
se areas. They only draw a small amount of power
( 8 to 25 watts, depending upon length ) and will
be connected to the refrigerator inverter.
I guess I'm just determined that I dont want any
more stuf that will leak all over the place.
Of course, I'm going to be going SOUTH too...
