I think some of the difference in attitudes probably
comes about as a result of the fact that some people
have raised kids, and some people haven't and/or are
basically still kids themselves.
Kids in nurturing families grow up to expect that the
world will take care of them, just like their parents
did.
Kids that grow up with too much coddling expect it
forever, and never do learn to become self-sufficient
or to take personal responsibility for themselves.
Parents who have successfully raised kids to become
self-sufficient know that too much bailing out does
them no good.
I'm sure there were times when my kids thought I was
morally reprehensible for not bailing them out of some
financial or other scrape they got themselves into
when they knew better. But they grew up. And they
are responsible adults now.
It's all a matter of different perspectives and
experience, as you said.
