you know sitting on the sidelines on this one and to an outsider i.e. not am
American the nasty side of this thread if i can call it that - is so typical
of the way we 'outsiders' perceive America and Americans now. A look after
me first - totally self interested society - to hell with the rest of you. I
have to say that here in the UK the only part of society that seems to look
after 'the family unit' are the Moslems Indian and Pakistanis where you will
find a close knit family unit with typically three sometimes four generations
living in the one home. We europeans/caucasians seem to have lost that
family connection and it would be almost unthinkable for us to live in that sort
of close proximity. Also we do look down on that close knit family unit for
some sort of bizarre reason. Seems that this self interest and lack of
interest in society in general spreads out to the neighbours the neighbourhood the
    country and the planet.

Cynical self interest is at work in the EU too with a rush to get Turkey to
join so that Moslems will be integrated in to Europe quickly forgetting all
the human rights abuse in Turkey - something like the USA using Saddam Hussein
to keep Iran at bay when Iran were the baddies and Iraq were the goodies.

Surely unless we are interested in our neighbours - in a lets take care of
the weak way - how can we expect our governments to behave in any different way
to other countries - and the planet - OR do you think it works the other way
about and this sort of behaviour filters down from above :-(

We must understand that when we create a sub culture of the dispossessed
(anywhere in the world) then we are putting ourselves and our society at real
risk. We only have to get on our boats and sail to the poorer parts of 'the
civilised world' to find out that we are seen as fair game for rip offs robbery
pirates and piracy as we sailors with a boat are seen as the very wealthy.

damn balst curses even the San Blass Islands have a charter fleet now :-(

    regards

    David
