Thanks everyone for your advise and encouragement. I
wrote a nice long introduction last night so you would
have a better idea of where Im coming from but my
modem had died and i lost it all when i clidked on
send. I'll try to answer some of your questions.
I am a beginner but not a raw beginner. I did some
salining on Lake Mead years ago, i helped run a
machine shop for many years, my brother and i rebuilt
the engine in a 1929 essex back in the 60s. I looked
at some trawlers but the safe ones were too big and
the small ones didn't look safe. Ive been reading
cruising world for about a year to get some ideas and
check out boats for sale. I would like to go offshore
eventually, perhaps europe, but i know i will need
much more experience before i do that. I like the
idea of just being free to go where i want to when i
want to and not be tied down to a home or
responsibilities. Im divorced and retired and its
time i lived my life for me while i still can.
I'm probably going to do this any how so Im probably
wasting your time here. I guess i was needing some
encouragement that i wasnt making a big mistake here.
I have some friends back east who go cruising although
i havent heard from them since the hurricanes. I'll
try contacting them again. Sorry this post got lost
last night.
Ive been looking at a Nonsuch. For its size it seems
to have a lot of room and it looks like the single
sail would be easier to handle on my own. It looks a
little funny but they say it sails very well.
Esther
