well... that's a little direct :-)
I've met a few former sailer who as they got a little older decided to forget sailing and are now enjoying the comfort and simplicity of the trawler world.... don't get me wrong, i love sailing and I'd love a sailboat but to get teh space i currently have in my 53 footer, i'd need to 65 to 70' sailboat, which woudl be hard to find a slip for, would prevent me from cruising the keys the way i like to and would force me to have a crew...
the first question you need to ask yourself is where will you really use the boat. sure, we all dream of sailing the world, or the caribbean or... but being realistic is the first step. some cruising grounds are better enjoyed under power (shallow draft, winds, etc...) others are best suited for sail. if your plans includes the Loop, then a sailboat isn't the best choice... if you have your sights set on sailing into a caribean sunset, then you don't want to worry about fuel consumption ....
whatever you decide, it is a great lifestyle! I sold my condo 2 years ago to live aboard and my only regret is not to have done it sooner even though i still have to stay put, work and my cruising is limited to weekends and occasional week long cruise in the Keys.
