Great feedback Brian. Like Ron says, for coastal US the Verizon cell service certainly gets high marks from a lot of cruisers. Unfortunately, we switched to Cingular a year ago and although you can use their cell service to connect, it certainly is not a free thing! We may just head south and hope to find sufficient Wi-fi hot spots along the way to check our mail. Not sure what we will do in the Bahamas. Really do not want to apply for a reciporcal ham license for that country.......so...
Thanks again to all those who responded about the BAMnet question.
Cheers,

IME in the Carib and small countries, 800# are
disabled so calling cards or call back systems cannot
work and do the local monopoly out of it's pound of
flesh. C&W places usually have a call around code to
access 800's for companies, etc, allowing access BUT
it makes it a toll call so you pay the LD charges to
local carrier. Many of the HS VOIP calling work around
systems we use are in fact not allowed officially, but
hard to be stopped unless one works at it. Not an
answer to you general question on ISP coverage in your
travels I realise.
Cheers
