Next message: (no name): "Re: lv-ab: SSB & Ham Radio Blues"
Well gang, I have replaced the long wire (36 feet), replaced the feedline, and added grounding. I also called the RF Shop which works on Alinco radios. At this point, I am of the opinion that most of my problem is not in the radio. I did manage to check in to the maritime net on 20 meters (14300 khz) yesterday and I heard some hams talking on 40 meters, so maybe the rig is OK. Other boats at this marina say that we are in an HF hole; the equivalent of Harry Potter's railroad platform 9 3/4! This along with what others are saying about the solar storm wiping out HF propagation last month seems to make the most sense. I guess the thing that threw me off some was that the radio and tuner were removed from the boat for a couple of months while we traveled back to Montana, so I thought that something had changed with the re-installment. Work continues aboard Tin Cup as we hope to get in shape for heading south very soon. Currently lying at Northwest Creek in North Carolina. Thank!
s for all
the suggestions and help.
