In a message dated 9/6/2005 10:52:42 PM Eastern Daylight Time,
     writes:
How about aluminum and galvanized chain, Norm? I've got an aluminum Spade and
galvanized chain. I do intend to anchor for long periods in the Keys this
Winter. My other anchors are a galvanized CQR, a Fortress (Al) a SS Northill, and
a galvanized Yachtsman that I probably not take. To make things even sweller,
I've got a SS articulated swivel to protect the Spade's shank. Perhaps I can
charge my batteries with this combo?

Sounds like you are onto a new trend in renewable energy! Please keep the
list posted as to any commercial products.

I thought of buying a SS swivel but was warned by the seller to use it only
with ss chain and ss anchor. Probably best to stay away from ss for anchor
gear that is used a lot.

As for aluminum anchors, I am old school, bigger and heavier is better.
Aluminum might work well in conditions that do not require the anchor to penetrate
    a firmer bottom. I use a 110 LB Bruce.
