Norm, I agree with the idea that you should have the ability to use an external antenna for better reception while at anchor etc. We recently bought our first laptop and it did come with an internal wi=fi card because it was an off-the -shelf model at the store. But having said that I was shown how to go into the control panel and access the hardware section and turn off the internal wi-fi card. Then I can attach an external card/antenna using the USB port and attempt to get some more range for a hotspot connection. We have not tried all this yet, so I suppose that time will tell. Never the less we are pleased to have our first laptop aboard and we will not miss all those trips to the library in whatever place we might find ourselves, just to check our email! Isn't life grand?!
Cheers..........

built-in Wi-Fi capability?
I would not buy a notebook computer considering built-in WiFi because it is a Good Thing to have an external high gain antenna to acess WiFi at anchor, as I am doing tonight, which as far as I know can only be done using a card.
