Thanks Steve and this is exactly the feedback that I am looking for; especially in light of the size boat and usuage. I do not believe that I have heard of a PowerPulse before. At any rate, thanks for the feedback; I would probably need to construct a new battery box since I don't think the Blue Seas box will be tall enough for the L16s. Have a great day.........

Roger, I've got a pair of the West Marine 8L16s which are essentially the same as the Trojan L16s except they're manufactured for West by Penn Power - from what I can tell, Penn Power enjoys the same excellent reputation as Trojan. I love them! Hooked in series they give me a 370 aHr house bank which is adequate for all the crap I've got onboard. They've been installed for almost two years and, despite checking water every 6-8 weeks or so they've really required nothing from me. They're monitored by a Link 20 so I can instantly check their health each time I'm on board (usually weekly for several days).
In my case, though, there are two things which seem to keep them healthy. I keep my refrigeration running 24/7 so they're drawn down about 40% or so each time I get to the boat and then they get charged up either by motoring around for an hour or two (that's easy since coming off my mooring I'll usually motor out for about 45 minutes before setting sails and the same on the return) or going to the dock and plugging in for about an hour or so while I do "stuff".
From what I'm told this constant "exercising" of them helps keep them healthy.
The other thing is that at the end of last season I installed a PowerPulse unit so they're getting constant "jolts" to keep sulfate from building up on the plates.
Yes the initial buy-in is high but IMHO well worth it.

Subject: lv-ab: Trojan L16H Battery
I have been considering how to improve the house bank on our rather small liveaboard cruiser; i.e. space is critical. I initially made space for another pair of T105s in the space where the water heater was. We have cruised a couple of years now without the water heater, but as of now that has changed. The water heater is back.
I am now considering replacing another pair of T105s with a pair of L16s; the L16s are approximately the same footprint although they are taller by about 6 inches. They also weight twice as much and cost three times as much as the T105s. Their longevity is reportedlly quite a bit longer than the T105s if properly maintained and their 20 hr amp rating is twice the T105.
Has anyone had any experience with the L16s? If so, what is your opinion of the battery in light of the space and financial considerations. Did they live up to the Trojan marketing pitch? Any ideas would be welcomed with the exception of getting a larger boat. Ha!
Cheers.........
