Heads up.
Computer nav software just has taken a giant leap forward. NOAA is
releasing their new charts and they are great.
We just bought a MAC program for Navigation (MacENC) that uses the new
NOAA Electronic Navigation Charts (ENC) which are now downloadable
without cost from the Govt. The full suit of charts are all shipped on
DVD with the software for less than $100.

The site above shows all the areas covered. This type of complete
coverage at no cost is unbelievable.
They look outstanding. They are in Raster format and newly devised to
contain updated info.
They are available for software, not only on MACs, but also on PCs and
Linux machines. They just finnished them and released them this last
week.
This was enough for us to finally go to laptop navigation, since no
charts need to be purchased and the upgrades are free. The NOAA web
site points out that they are free, and made to easily work with any
software, but some companies may continue to make a small charge.
