Based an my memory of working in a radiator shop
for the summer of 1972, the 'boil out' tank
contains a caustic solution at about 150 degrees
F.
The thick rubber gloves they gave me to use were
NEEDED!. I ruined a few pairs of Levi jeans before
I bought a leather apron to protect them.
You could NOT put your hand into the solution
even with the thick gloves because it was too darn
HOT!
We pressure tested all radiators after the
boil-out procedure, and I can't remember a single
one that passed without some soldering.
Of course, that was back when the radiators were
all copper, not part plastic like they seem to be
these days...
