I'm sure it is. The importer is in MD and wasn't offering much of a
discount. Those guys charge $65 an hour. So, as a trawlerman, I got a Sears
10.3 auto defrost everything for $342. It's a prominent feature in the
saloon awaiting my destruction of the refrigerator. The freezer/helm seat is
2/3 destroyed.

| That's nuts, Ron. First of all, if your boat is hauled (bottom paint,
| whatever) it takes 20 minutes to drill the appropriate hull opening and
| epoxy in a piece of starboard or marine plywood as a backing plate. It
takes
| another 20 minutes to install their keel cooler and bolt it down. The
| compressor can go anywhere, ventilated or not, as long as its within 6' or
| so of your box.
|
| Screw in the evaporator/freezer into the box, drill one hole to pass
through
| the thermostat wire and the two refrigerant lines and you're almost done.
| Run your power lines to the panel and negative bus and that's that.
There's
| nothing in the installation beyond the ability of anyone who owns a boat
and
| has a rudimentary ability with a drill, screwdriver, wrench, wire
strippers
| and a crimper.
|
| I opted for the Isotherm unit which is identical to the Frigoboat except
you
| don't need an extra thru-hull. The Isotherm replaces your existing galley
| sink drain thru-hull with it's own and you reconnect your drain hose to
| their thru-hull.
|
| Cost-wise both units are comparable, within a hundred dollars or so. And
the
| "published" price for a unit to handle a 6 cu.ft. box is about $1300.
| Shopping around you could probably get the package (either one) for about
| $1100 or maybe a little less.
|
| My installation took me about 7 hours, start to finish but spread out over
a
| couple of hours a day last winter. About two hours of that was installing
a
| shelf and glassing it in in a salon locker.
|
| If you're interested, I did a photo story on the Hunter Owners website at:
