Hi,
My diesel tach is 3 years old, and recently it's been showing erratic rpm
readings when the engine is running at a constant fuel setting. The
readings will vary for a while, then stabilize for a while, then vary, etc.
The readings will vary by quite a bit (from 700 - 2200 RPM) not the normal
small variations of 10 or 20 RPM I'm used to seeing. The engine is a 2 cyl
Yanmar with a single tach transducer attached to one of the fuel lines, and
has been working flawlessly until now. I did remove the transducer, cleaned
under it, and reattached it, but this didn't help. I really can't detect any
change in the engine's sound or performance during these periods of strange
readings, so I ask the following question:
In your experience, does this most likely indicate a tach problem, or is it
actually possible that I have the beginning stages of a malfunctioning
injector that the tach is picking up on?
