We found a similar situation in the Azores.
Relatively inexpensive prices for boat work and an excellent reputation amoungst the boating crowd.

Lee,
If you run your boat thru Gibraltar, you will find all that you need
for reasonable prices from the electricians sitting at the marina
looking for work.
They have done many conversions and seem to know what they are doing.
Had a friend who shipped his boat into La Harve and had the french do
it. Seems something was not right. I forgot the details.
However, he had to stop at Gibraltar for fuel and some "electrician"
came up to him and asked him if he needed to "go european" (?).
finally, understood and said no, but the guy would NOT go away. So he
explained the problem he was having and the guy asked if he could take
a look.
Was not at the transformer more than a minute when, according to my
friend, he said something to the effect that "The French really ………
this up!" (My friend claims he did NOT tell him the french installed
it!) He offered to fix it for what my friend thought was too cheap, but
in less than an hour, got it working like a champ.
Then, the guy sold him an "upgraded transformer" that kept the voltage
output steady at varying input. Was not too expensive, and did it.
When I saw him in Naples, he was fine on shore power where most of his
neighbors kept popping circuit breakers.
YMMV

There was a detailed article on this very subject by Steve D'Antonio in
"PassageMaker" magazine. I just looked and it's not among Steve's
articles
at the Zimmerman Marine site. Adapters and a transformer will be
required
and are readily available.

|A distant plan is to ship my boat to Europe for use for one or 2
seasons,
| then to be sold there. The boat is equipped with Ocean Marine brand,
| 14,000BTU central air, for 120V 60Hz power, about a 20A draw. Even
though
I

| Is there a transformer commonly used to convert the Europe 220V 50Hz
power
| to 120V 50hz, ( it would need to be at least 30A at 120V rated) and if
so,
| will the A/C run on 50Hz? Who would sell this item?
