    I get reception here in Bermuda (which is a lot farther away from the US)
    in my car except when there is solid rock blocking the signal (frequent
    here as it is hilly). I plan to add XM to my sailboat in time. The boom
    box and/or it's antenna doesn't seem to work as well as the car kit and I
    don't usually get a signal here with it.

    I would do it (and try the marine kit).
