We dump our extra energy into the water heater. I realize that you
indicated this isn't a possibility for you, but I thought I'd use the
occasion to share an interesting experience I had with my water heater.
I also have solar panels that funnel extra power into the heater. I
recently had a battery go bad, causing my battery charge at the dock to
run constantly. I didn't notice it running for a bit. I also had my
solar panels working. Because the charger were dumping in over 14
volts, the solar panel energy was going into the water heater. The end
result was that the high temp shut off shut down the water heater after
the relief valve spilled out some of the water. My first reaction was
that the thermostat had stopped working. It was only after connecting
the charger, the bad battery and the solar panels that I figured out
what had happened. Now all is well, but I need a new battery.
Perhaps just store this away for a future time when something like this
may happen.

We are soon having a KISS installed and need to find something to run to
take the excess power when the batteries are fully charged.
We have a propane water heater so that is not a possibility. Fans in the
engine room are possible. We only have a 35' boat so not much room for
extra gear. Any suggestions?
Marilyn
