Rechargeable batteries.
I switched over exclusively to NMiH batterys. They last a LOT longer between
charges. They're especially necessary in digital cameras and other high
current draw devices. Expensive though but worth it.
As for a charger, Radio Shack sells a small charger that coems witha
cigarette lighter plug. It only does AA and AAA sized batteries, so I only
buy devices that use them. Just bought a cute little LED flashlight that
will run nearly forever on 4 AAA NMiH batteries.
Charging from an inverter would be a waste of energy and might not even be
possible. Some inverters need to see a minimum current draw before they will
output AC power. Small battery chargers draw very little and the inverter
might not turn on.
