Well, it took a while to find out just what I have, and it ends up being a
Satellite A75 S2112, with a Pentium 4 processor, not a Celeron. The adaptor
input is 120v, 1.8 amp, output is 19v, 6.3 amp. When everything is running
(cooling fan, etc.) my 12v ammeter shows a draw of 10 amps, drops to 5 amps
at best.
Which all goes to say, I should have kept my mouth shut.
The old brain isn't good at electrical conversions any more, so I'm not sure
what all the above numbers mean. How many watts is 10 amps at 12v? I do know
that the salesman at Best Buy insisted I needed a minimum 300w invertor,
which in retrospect was probably b.s. I also wonder about the efficiency of
my 400w invertor - probably terrible, it was a bit of an emergency purchase
for $29.95 from Pepboys after I fried a West Marine one.
Regardless of the problems, I love the computer. Its so bright that I can
aim it at the cockpit and see my navigation program (Coastal Explorer) in
bright sunlight while I'm steering.
I almost don't dare raise another electrical topic, but could there be such
a thing as an invertor that directly converts 12v to 19v? Toshiba doesn't
seem to offer it.
Tim

I don't understand how that could be.
