A consideration that may apply if you plan on using the computer underway is
how much power it draws. I bought a Toshiba 3 months ago, a Satellite with
the big bright screen, which I love. I was dismayed to find that it draws
almost 300 watts, which means it needs an invertor with a fan. Not only is
the power consumption a pain, but so is the constant fan noise.

If you find the Thinkpad is noticeably less power-hungry, that could effect
    the decision.

I have spent the past week trying to decide which of these two computers to
buy. Both have Centrino processors. The Thinkpad (14 inch screen) is one
pound lighter (Toshiba, 15" screen, is 6lb.) Thinkpad case is
titanium/magnesium, Toshiba is plastic. The nav prgram we have (Fugawi) does
not need high graphics. Please don't suggest other computers. Choice has to
be one of these. Which would you buy and why?
    Thanks for any advice.
